Welcome our October featured artists, Lisa Schmidtfrerick-Miller and Andy Palermo, whose striking photography exhibit explores the loss of Jamestown’s industrial past. With a strong documentary style and an emphasis on black-and-white imagery, the collection takes a raw, thoughtful look at the places, structures, and history that helped shape the city.
Their photography will be on display throughout the month of October, with an opening reception on Thursday, October 15th from 5–7 PM.
WANTED: Not just another pretty picture SHARE YOUR BEST "WABI-SABI" SHOT! This month, we are inviting you to see the things around you in a different light. The Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi finds beauty and intrigue in rust, fading, age, imperfection, and the natural cycle of decay. Our current gallery show has plenty of examples of Wabi-Sabi and we're hoping to show off some of yours in our display case! Here are a few tips to help you get started:
- Ideas: Old fences, weathered wood, decaying flowers, rusty car parts, peeling paint, fallen leaves.
- Look for light and shadows. The way light hits an object can make a great image out of an everyday thing! Try early morning and evening light.
- Shoot from a low or high angle, or shoot close-up to get the details.
We'll print and frame your shot and display it in the case with your name and the title of your image. This should be your own work, and use of AI is not permitted. Email your shots to: [email protected] no later than October 15th.
