“A Little Peace, Of Nature”
My works in this show are a glimpse into how I interpret the natural world in watercolor. I am a “curious observer” and have always been an artist, a writer, and a maker. My heart is in painting watercolors, and I have a love of botanical art, striving for a painterly realism in my work.
Living with the Allegheny National Forest on my doorstep, I love to find beautiful leaves, acorns, flowers and fungi. If it has an interesting perspective, I want to capture that, photograph it – and of course, paint it! Because a painting isn’t a photograph, I attempt to convey the emotion of what attracts me to the subject. A few of the paintings are inspired by my interest in foraging wild edibles, which lends yet another layer to learning new ways of seeing, and how to better convey my observations in my paintings. It’s my hope that you are able to share my connection to Nature’s peace, hope, and wonder when you view my watercolors. By portraying nature’s own artistry, I take this opportunity to share with you my vision of a particular subject or scene by preserving its beauty, crystallized in its own perfect moment.
